Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the average investment for your projects?
Project investment varies quite a bit based on final scope of work, and each of our projects are unique to the homeowner and their house. Remodeling is an investment in your home and in your future, and it is often the second most expensive investment you make (behind buying your home). Through our design process we help guide you to the best decision based on your needs, and our conversations involve practical solutions that are often driven by budget.
Here are some of our average costs by room:
Bathroom remodels: $80-100K
Kitchens remodels: $120-150K
Basements remodels: $170-220K
2. Are you able to give me a bid for my project?
Unfortunately we are not. Because our spaces are custom designed and built for each homeowner, we need to do a certain amount of design work to be able to determine an accurate cost of construction. We are able to give average costs based on past projects which we call a target budget. We’d love to get started with you on the design process, where we take a retainer up front and get a better understanding of your end goals for the space. At the start of the design process we have you sign our Design Agreement, where we indicate a target budget.
3. How long does your design process take?
Design is typically at least a 12-16 week process, depending on the size of the project. We take our time through design and assist you with decisions on flooring, cabinets, tile, countertop plumbing and light fixtures, and paint color. We want to ensure we thoroughly think through your needs for your space, how your family will use it, explore the different solutions, and help guide you to the best decision possible.
4. How long does a typical remodel take?
This varies greatly with the scope of work, however our smallest projects (typically bath remodels) generally take a minimum of 12 weeks to complete. Kitchens average 12-16 weeks. Often our projects involve taking our spaces down to the studs and rebuilding them, while updating plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc. We love our old homes but often they need to be fully updated.
5. Will I work with the same team throughout Design and Construction?
Yes. We are a cohesive team, that is the beauty of a Design-Build firm like ours. You will have one point of contact in Design and one in Construction. Our Design team stays involved throughout construction to ensure that what we’ve designed is being installed as we’ve discussed and envisioned.
6. Can I save things from my house and repurpose them?
Absolutely. This is a cornerstone of our philosophy. If we can save an original fixture, door, detail, etc – we do. There’s nothing like an original 1913 stained glass door. First, we’ll take inventory of what is onsite and what we can re-use or re-purpose. Then, we’ll find items that will blend with the existing details to make things look like they’ve always been there. Some items are not possible to save and reuse, but we do our best to recreate details that fit your home.
7. Do I have to move out of my house for my remodel? How about if it is a kitchen?
We have some homeowners that choose to stay in their home and others that choose to move, depending on their lifestyle and needs. We are well versed in working while homeowners are living in the space and understand that it can be a challenging and stressful time. We do our best to minimize our impact on the rest of your home, communicate expectations, and make the remodel experience as pleasant as possible.
